Visual Poetry
I am working on several projects including:
A book length erasure from Volume 16 of The University of Knowledge Wonder Books, Great Leaders, Men and Women Who Influenced Their Times (1937, 1938). In this erasure, Marie Curie resurfaces as Marie Curious. Jane Addams resurfaces as Jane Adds. Alexander the Great resurfaces as Alexa the Great. After experimenting with a variety of pens and markers, I am now working on the original pages with water-based markers and washi tape. Here are some images of the work in progress: The Great Resurfacing: experiments and drafts.
A series of visual poems consisting of one image, one American haiku, and one hermit crab flash essay. The essay takes the form of an annotation to or commentary on the image and the haiku, as if it were a museum title card or object label.
A series of three-times sourced erasures consisting of one page of text, erased three times, an occasional image, and credits. The titles come one or more “pivot words” which appear on each page following erasure. Hon We is one example.
